Portwest rain trousers: the unglamorous fix for wet jeans
Cheap over-trousers for anyone who cycles in Dutch weather.
Portwest classic rain over-trousers
4.2 out of 5 from about 7,800 ratings on Amazon.nl.
Why rain trousers
A rain jacket keeps your top half dry, but your thighs take the rain on a bike. Over-trousers mean you arrive with dry jeans.
What they're like
Polyester with a PVC coating, an elastic waist and a roomy fit so they go over your normal trousers. They're light enough to keep in your bag.
The downsides
PVC isn't breathable, so you'll get warm on long rides. They're plain work-wear, not fashion. They aren't tumble-dryer safe; hang them to dry.
Good
- Cheap
- Fits over normal trousers
- Light
Not so good
- Not breathable
- Plain look
My short video about it (also on TikTok and Instagram).
How I put this together: "Researched pick" means I haven't put it through long-term use myself. I've gone through the product specifications and a large number of buyer reviews, and I compared it with similar products. When I've used something myself, the page says so. Nobody paid for this review. More on how I earn money.
